Jon: Many people don’t know this, but Brian Williams and I have actually known each other for a very long time—have been friends, actually, since high school. Our yearbook is full of photos.

We played football together, actually. He, um… I was hurt at the time, so it was, uh, not, uh…

Anyway, we were also lab partners for quite some time. And, uh, we had a lot of fun.

It’s funny, true story, we actually went to the prom together. So… Let me just say one of us got lucky that night. Reoww.

“I do want to say,  y’know, people can disagree about strategy, and political and foreign policies, and things of that nature, but hopefully we can all agree that the men and women of our armed services are giving so much to our country and the task that they are performing is a complex one, it’s nuanced. The patience that they display, tenacity that they display, and the competence that they display is astonishing, and they’re doing it all on a surface that at times resembles what I assume to be Venus… I cannot thank you all enough, you’re amazing people.”
